The Special Populations Office at LIT offers a wide variety of support services for Special Populations students for free. Special Population students include: single parents, students with disabilities, displaced homemakers, older than average and economically disadvantaged students.

Lamar Institute of Technology provides reasonable accommodations as defined in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Section 504 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act of 2008, to students with a “diagnosed” disability.

Accommodations can be made for a physical and/or learning disability. A request for services must be made at least four weeks before the beginning of each semester. Appropriate documentation of a diagnosable disability must be submitted before accommodations may be arranged.

Hearing Impaired
Hearing impaired students should contact the Communication Access Provider in person or via E-mail at least 4-6 weeks before the semester begins in order to assure adequate time to locate a qualified interpreter. /p>

In order to receive services through Special Populations, you must make an appointment with the Special Populations Coordinator or Communication Access Provider.
