Hard work has paid off for Lamar Institute of Technology Foundation Development Manager Vickie Seymour. She has been named the college’s Employee of the Month for October.

Seymour’s efforts in awarding scholarships played a crucial role in keeping students enrolled at LIT past drop dates and the school’s record-breaking enrollment increase. Besides her primary responsibilities, she played a key role in preparing and managing two major fundraisers that provide scholarships to students in need.

The Salute to Real American Heroes event, held at Wesley United Methodist Church, raised money for the scholarship endowment for students in the Public Service and Safety Department. Her work was also on display during the recent 2018 LIT Foundation Charity Golf Tournament, sponsored by ExxonMobil. The tournament raised an estimated $79,500 for LIT student scholarships.

Seymour, who began working for LIT in 2015 as Development Coordinator in the Foundation office, said she’s very grateful to receive the award. “I just like what I do. I like helping students more than anything. That’s why I’m here.”

Prior to her job at LIT, Seymour worked for the Julie Rogers’ Gift of Life Program. Seymour, who has been married 35 years, spends her spare time with her granddaughters, making costumes for the Beaumont Community Players’ productions and helping decorate for weddings and other life events.
