BEAUMONT—Incoming Lamar Institute of Technology students are being reassured of their on-campus safety for the Fall 2020 semester, in a newly produced and distributed video.  The video, youtu.be/-NX0_4Pcisk, outlines new protocols the Institute has put into place.

“We realize that the thought of attending school face-to-face during this COVID-19 pandemic might be intimidating for a student and his or her family,” said LIT President Dr. Lonnie L. Howard. “We want to make sure they understand that LIT is committed to providing a safe, yet comfortable and nurturing environment for students, faculty and staff. Everyone’s safety on campus is our number one priority—now more than ever.”

Among necessary precautions established, besides following recommended CDC guidelines, are: at least twice daily deep cleanings and the disinfecting of buildings, a face covering mandate for those on campus, and daily screenings to enter buildings. LIT is advising campus guests to allow an extra half-hour to get to class or their destination on time.

To aid students and visitors with social distancing and other recommendations, CDC informational signs have been posted throughout the campus, decals have been placed on floors by offices, and furniture has been rearranged, removed or marked.

Additionally, students, staff and faculty will be navigating the campus differently, on elevators, in restrooms and hallways. Students will needs to leave their buildings immediately after class. They are urged to self-assess if displaying any symptoms, and advised to stay home. Communications with instructors about missed classes and/or health concerns are necessary.

LIT’s Fall 2020 Late Start semester begins September 21. Those interested may still enroll at lit.edu/go.
