The Academic Affairs’ Committee

The Academic Affairs’ Committee serves as a communication link between administration, faculty, and students concerning academic issues. In order to improve or provide new academic services, the committee works with policies affecting the quality of a student’s education at awareness and Faculty-Student relations.

The Student Affairs’ Committee

The Student Affairs’ Committee is responsible for meeting the needs and interests of the students. This committee works on issues that are of immediate concern to the Lamar Institute of Technology student body. Members of the committee are encouraged to seek input from students in order to find out what issues are priorities among them.

The Legislative Affairs’ Committee

The Legislative Affairs’ Committee serves as an advisory committee on all legislation, which may affect students and /or higher education. This committee tracks legislation on the local, state and federal levels, which may affect students and higher education.

The Election Committee

The Election Committee is to provide verification of academic compliance of all candidates for any office associated with Lamar Institute of Technology SGA. The Office of Student Services is to determine the order in which the names of the candidates shall appear on the ballot and to provide for the printing of the election ballots. Also, provide the execution of elections as a labor force at the polling place by obtaining workers for the scheduled hours of 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for two consecutive days. At least one member of the Election Committee must be present for the counting of the election votes, which will be counted by at least one member of the Executive Committee and either the Dean of Student Services and/ or the faculty advisor.

The Public Affairs’ Committee

The Public Affairs’ Committee is responsible for the coordination of information and events from the community to LIT and from LIT to the community. This can be accomplished by attending meetings of local organizations such as other SGAs, Lions Club, City Council meetings, etc. The committee is charged with making students aware of the SGA, facilitating student input, and improving community awareness of LIT. The Public Affairs’ Committee is responsible for publicizing and promoting activities of SGA by communicating with students, faculty, staff, administration, and community. The committee is also responsible for implementing activities in which students may participate in the surrounding community. They are also in charge of sending information to the media, pending approval of the Dean of Student Services and the Director of Public Information. It will develop and promote special projects brought before the SGA. The Public Affair’s’ Committee shall assist in the selection of talent chosen for campus entertainment and events pending approval of the Vice President of Student Services.
