Lamar Institute of Technology welcomed the community to a holiday tree lighting event on November 28. The event was sponsored by Entergy Texas, longtime supporters of the college's utility line program and technology department.

“For decades, Entergy Texas has been a proud supporter of LIT initiatives and events, which is why it was only right to serve as the sole sponsor for the inaugural Power On tree lighting event,” said Karen Do, public affairs representative for Entergy Texas. “Giving back to the communities we serve year-round is a big part of our company’s mission, so we’re excited to help power a bright holiday season for families in the Southeast Texas community.”

In addition to the lighting, attendees passed through the quad to write letters and take a photo with Santa, meet the Grinch, get creative with seasonal crafts and snack on hot cocoa and cookies. Entertainment included choir presentations from Pietzsch-MacArthur and Charlton-Pollard Elementary Schools and a performance from the Beaumont Community Players cast of “A Christmas Carol.”
Throughout the event, the LIT Foundation held a silent wreath auction, each beautifully created by LIT employees, that raised $1370 to benefit student scholarships.

"We planned the tree lighting as a way to open our doors to the community for a fun and festive evening," said Krista Hunter, Executive Director of Foundation and Development. "We think that we definitely achieved this with the amount of smiling faces on campus. Thank you to all who supported our students through our auction and to Entergy Texas for 'powering' our event."
