Mental Health Resources

Lamar University Student Health Center

All of our services are strictly confidential.

Mental health/psychological counseling services are available at the Student Health Center to currently enrolled students of Lamar University and Lamar Institute of Technology. Knowing that college students face many pressures and challenges, our counseling staff aspires to provide the guidance and support needed to assist students in achieving academic and personal success.

A licensed mental health professional is available by appointment for individual counseling sessions, group therapy (as the need arises), and couples counseling (on a limited basis). In keeping with university policy, the counseling staff works on a Brief Therapy Solution Oriented model. The staff works closely with the Student Health Center medical providers in the event that a student needs to discuss medication options.

In addition, the counselor provides consultation and support services to university administration, departments, faculty and staff regarding student well-being. They present trainings, workshops, screenings and a myriad of other mental health outreach services; as well as provide referrals to various community resources.

Students should plan to arrive 10 minutes early for their first counseling session, and check in at the computers near the front door. There may be an intake quiz waiting for you.  Please bring your student ID to all Student Health Center appointments.
