Workforce Training and Continuing Education
Want to boost or change your career? Get trained through LIT's Workforce Training and Continuing Education office to increase your competitiveness and job satisfaction.
We offer a variety of non-credit education and training programs as well as customized training for employers.
Program Areas
Fast track continuing education programs can be as short as one day to as long as six months in length, depending on the program of study. A few of the courses we offer include: Computerized Drafting (AutoCAD), Computer Training, Forklift Operator Certification, Aerial (Man) Lift Certification, Welding, Pharmacy Technician, and Clinical Medical Assistant, along with leisure and language courses like Digital Photography and Spanish for Health Care Workers.
We customize courses to meet the needs of area businesses and industry. Contract training offers face-to-face instruction, online 24/7 access, and on-site services for credit or non-credit.

The new Workforce and Allied Health Training Center at LIT will have dedicated Workforce classrooms and the cutting-edge Industry Partners Lab. In this facility Industry Partners can work with the Workforce and Continuing Education Department to craft tailored training for their employees and have ample space to bring in large equipment for hands-on learning.
We are excited to be able to provide specialized training for our local industry needs.
Continuing education and adult lifelong learning options are available to be completed entirely online. You have the choice between self paced career training certification programs or short term instructor-led or self paced courses that are completed in as little as six weeks. Courses come from fields like health and wellness, graphic and multimedia design, computers, management/leadership and small business, and personal and professional development.
Lamar Institute of Technology's Professional Driving Academy trains professional truck drivers. We offer Class 'A,' Class 'B' and Refresher training courses for a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Our Safety Awareness Institute (SAI) offers reduced priced safety courses to the public, partially funded by Texas Mutual Insurance. These courses regularly include Heartsaver First Aid CPR, forklift training, and aerial lift training.
We offer select technical courses at off-campus locations. Welding for the general public is offered at the Jasper Deep East Texas College and Career Academy (DETCCA), 450 Bulldog Drive, Jasper, TX 75951.
HVAC and Diesel Engine Repair training is offered at the Beaumont Federal Correctional Facility for incarcerated individuals.
If you’re looking for fun and enriching programs for your children, look no further than LIT's Eaglet Camps! Kids between the ages of 5-15 are offered a variety of programs ranging from art, science to technology and everything in between.

Who Dun It? Investigation Techniques
- Dates: July 22 - 25
- Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Our Who Dun It? Investigation Techniques course will teach students what forensics and criminal investigation really is by looking into fingerprints, casting of shoe prints, blood spatters, bones, and learning how to perform a basic crime scene search. This course was designed for students entering 6th to 9th grade.
ESL English Improvement
These courses are tailored for individuals seeking to learn English as an additional language, with a focus on the practical application within a professional context. Participants will engage in a comprehensive curriculum that covers:
- Essential Language Skills: Develop fundamental skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening, with content directly applicable to industry settings.
- Vocabulary Development: Expand your lexicon with high-frequency, industry-specific terminology, enabling more effective communication in the workplace.
- Phonetic Precision: Gain insights into English phonetics to improve pronunciation, ensuring clear and confident verbal exchanges.
- Productivity through Proficiency: Elevate your job performance by refining both oral and written communication abilities, tailored to professional scenarios.
- Sound System Mastery: Achieve a greater command of the English sound system, enhancing overall linguistic control and understanding.
Through interactive exercises and real-world examples, these courses aim to empower students with the language tools necessary for heightened job productivity and career growth.
We are offering a series of courses-Basic, Intermediate and Advanced level skills to meet your level of competence. These courses are being offered at both the LIT Main Campus in Beaumont and our new TSUS - Polk County Center in Livingston, so check the location listed for the course you are interested in attending prior to registration.
