The Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) Workforce Training and Continuing Education Department is taking applications for the appliance repair program, which runs July 11-December 7, 2024. The program will teach students how to diagnose and service refrigerators, freezers, window air conditioners, dryers, washers, dishwashers, and domestic cooking equipment.

Classes will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30-9:30 p.m. and every other Saturday from 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The program is offered at a reduced tuition rate of $100 and students will be furnished with textbooks and other learning resources, thanks to the TRUE (Texas Reskilling and Upskilling through Education) grant. Upon completing the course, graduates will receive tools valued at over $1,000.

With the TRUE Grant, LIT helps bring new opportunities to the SETX community and beyond.

"Executing this grant to develop appliance repair technicians for the local community is part of the LIT Workforce Department's plan for sustainable growth through new programs and offerings that will not only provide skills for meaningful employment but also serve as a pathway toward LIT's credit programs, which in this case would be our HVAC program offerings," said Paul Bertrand, LIT Assistant Director of Corporate Partnerships.
