BEAUMONT – Lamar Institute of Technology students can now apply for the $5,000 Edmund P. Kuempel Scholarship.  The program provides a one-time grant to currently enrolled students to assist with tuition, required fees, living expenses and/or educational materials.

Students in any undergraduate degree program at a TSUS institution may receive this financial assistance to help complete their degrees. The program was established by The Texas State University System (TSUS) Foundation to also encourage academic excellence and recognize outstanding student leadership and achievements.

Applicants must be students at, or be accepted for admission to, LIT; be enrolled in a program that results in an academic degree; have satisfactorily completed 12 hours of coursework at an accredited institution with a GPA of at least 3.5 (If accomplished at a non-TSUS school, completed coursework must be transferable to LIT.); submit a short essay (no longer than 800 words, double-spaced) with a statement of the candidate’s goals and reasons for pursuing the degree; must be a U.S. citizen and current Texas resident; and must not have received this scholarship previously.

Qualified candidates will be chosen by the LIT Scholarship Committee on December 11, to be sent to The TSUS Foundation’s Board of Directors, who determines the number of scholarships to be awarded annually.

Deadline to apply is Sunday, December 8, 2019, at 11:59 p.m. Interested students may apply here: www.lit.edu/foundation/scholarships. If applicants have questions, they can call 409-839-2983.
