BEAUMONT – Lamar Institute of Technology recently was named number five on the list of the 2020 Best Community Colleges in Texas, according to the national educational ranking website Niche.com. The list included 56 other community colleges in the state.
LIT also ranked 83rd out of 871 community colleges in the U.S. This is the second time the Institute has received an honor from Niche.com. The award was also bestowed in 2018.

According to the website, “the 2020 Best Community Colleges ranking is based on rigorous analysis of academic, financial and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education (DOE) along with millions of reviews from students and alumni.” Schools are judged overall on quality of academic programs, admissions, safety, diversity, affordability, student life and location.
Rankings reflect the entire college experience, from freshman year to life after college. Niche also provides in-depth profiles and assesses colleges to produce annual grade reports for each school. This year, LIT received a grade of “B.”
According to Niche.com, LIT’s most popular majors are: Lab Technician, Instrumentation Technician, Police and Criminal Science and Welding.

LIT President Dr. Lonnie L. Howard said, “I am ecstatic to hear that we received this ranking from Niche.com for a second time. With a 92.8 percent job placement rate, as well as average first-year starting salaries1 for Process Operating graduates of over $77,000, we know that real opportunities await students here to live the ‘American Dream.’”
