Robert Jones, Program Director for Welding Technology at Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT), obtained his American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification on October 1, 2024. This credential is a mark of distinction in the welding field, demonstrating a thorough grasp of welding processes and standards.

“Over the years, Robert has played a pivotal role in developing the program, equipping students with the essential skills and knowledge required to thrive in the welding industry,” said Dr. Sidney Valentine, President. “This certification highlights his individual dedication to excellence in welding education and industry standards, and also enhances the overall quality of the Welding Technology program at LIT.”

The AWS CWI certification is renowned for its rigorous training and testing process, which assesses professionals on their expertise in welding codes, inspection techniques, and quality control procedures. To qualify for the CWI certification, an individual will need a combination of education and work experience. By attaining this certification, Jones joins an elite group of professionals recognized globally for their knowledge and skills in welding inspection, quality assurance and safety.

As a CWI, Jones is now officially able to inspect welds for correct technique, ensuring that the results meet standards and are performed under proper safety regulations.
