Steps for Entry

Regional Police Academy

TAKE ENTRANCE EXAM

The exam is a two and a half hour, 100 question, multiple choice, basic knowledge test. The entrance exam is a competitive test as we only accept a total of 30 cadets per semester.
 

VIEW TESTING DATES

Testing dates and times for the next available academy (Fall 2024) are as follows:
  • January - April 2024
  • Every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month
  • 9:00 AM  and 1:00PM
Those who pass the entrance exam with a qualifying score, will be required to attend Cadet Orientation in June.

There will be 24 seats per test date

COST $15.00
Entry level exam Payment must be made in person at the LIT Cashier's Office located in the Cecil Beeson, 1st Floor Hallway before scheduling the exam. After paying at the cashier’s office please bring the receipt to the Multi-Purpose Center, Rm. 258 during normal business hours to reserve a seat for the desired exam date.

COMPLETE ACADEMY APPLICATION PACKET

You will notified by Academy Personnel if your score was high enough to complete an Academy application and complete steps 3-6.
 

APPLY FOR ACCEPTANCE TO LIT

You must be admitted to LIT for the term. To do this, you must submit an Application for Admission through www.ApplyTexas.org.
 

SUBMIT TO A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK

TAKE PHYSICAL EXAM / DRUG SCREEN

During orientation you will receive information directing you to obtain a physical exam and drug screen from the approved provider. The results of all testing will be sent to the Police Academy.
 

PSYCHOLOGICAL EXAM

During orientation you will receive information directing you to obtain a psychological exam from an approved provider. The results of all testing will be sent to the Police Academy.
