
LIT Online Frequently Asked Questions
LIT Online students follow the same advising process as on-campus students. Advising helps you stay on track, choose the right classes, and make progress toward your goals.
Before your advising appointment, be sure to:
- Check your application status
- Call 409-880-8321 or email admissions@lit.edu
- Complete the TSI Assessment, if required
- Review the LIT Catalog and Student Handbook
- Understand your degree plan and course requirements
- Browse the class schedule
- Create a draft list of courses you're interested in
New Students: Email registration@lit.edu to connect with a general advisor from Student Services.
Returning Students: Log into Starfish and schedule an appointment with your assigned advisor under your "Success Network".
How do online students get registered?
Once you've met with an advisor and finalized your course plan, you're ready to register!
- Your advisor will help you identify CRNs (Course Reference Numbers)
- You can register through your Self-Service Banner account
- Be sure to double-check deadlines and payment due dates

Please make every effort to prepare yourself and your computer prior to the first day of class.
Before class starts:
- Run the Browser Checker to determine if your browser is compatable for our Learning Management System: Blackboard.
- If you receive all green checks, the compatibility check was successful.
- If you received a red "x", follow the repair instructions.
- For technical assistance, contact the LIT helpdesk at 409-839-2074 or helpdesk@lit.edu.
- Review videos on how you will submit assignments, view your grades, interact on discussion boards, and take test within the learning management system and attempt these tasks in the orientation course found in your course list the first few weeks of the semester.
- Preview the course syllabus to purchase and/or gather required course material.
Registered course enrollments should display within 2-4 hours after enrollment but they will not be available to access until the first day of the semester.
The first day of class you will want to log in to Blackboard via myLIT and familiarize yourself with your class and instructors preferred method of communication.
In most cases the first day of class will be the first opportunity you have to login to your class.
Username and Password
- Usernames and passwords are generated automatically by the system.
- Your instructor will NOT know your log in credentials.
- Username will be your studentID@my.lit.edu
- This can be found on your LIT tuition payment receipts, your acceptance letter and within Self-Service Banner.
- Password will be the complex password.

Blackboard Learn access is built into our Single SignOn "myLIT"
- Go to the www.lit.edu
- Click on "myLIT"
- Type in your Username and Password
- Click on Sign in
- Locate Blackboard in your myLIT.
- You can then click:
- Institution Page - to see campus announcements and resources.
- Your Name - to update your profile and add a photo/pronouns/ and name pronunciation.
- Activity Stream - to see a list of important course activities and jump into your course.
- Courses - to see a list of your courses that you click to enter.
- Calendar - to see a calendar display of assignments with set due dates.
- Note not all assignments will populate to this calendar if the instructor did not assign a due date to the item.
- Messages - to see internal message system for instructors that prefer this method of communication.
While your classes may appear before the first day of the semester your courses will not be available to you until the first day of class.
If you are taking an online course that utilizes additional resources from the textbook publisher, you may need a STUDENT ACCESS CODE. The access code will be provided with your textbook and/or your instructor will tell you how to access your code.
