The Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) Workforce Training and Continuing Education Department hosted the 2025 Pathways to Industry Summer Camp from July 14 to July 18, 2025. Sponsored by Entergy and Quanta Services, the camp provides local youth with full-day, hands-on experience to introduce them to potential career pathways and technical education opportunities at LIT.
Campers aged 13-18 attended sessions including Criminal Investigation, Welding, Process Operations Technology, Instrumentation Technology, AutoCAD and Physics. This year, three new sessions were added: Truck Driving Academy; Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC); and Nursing.
"The goal of the Pathways to Industry Summer Camp is to show students the opportunities that are possible right here in their SETX community," said Arturo Rodriguez, LIT Coordinator of Continuing Education. "Whether it's discovering a new career interest, making a connection with a mentor, or simply realizing what they're capable of, we want every student to leave feeling inspired and empowered."
Campers experienced real-world applications of each occupation, from simulating crime scenes and welding virtual projects to operating lab equipment and practicing healthcare procedures.
"The success of Pathways to Industry Summer Camp is made possible through our sponsorship with Entergy and Quanta Services," said Ana Pereda, LIT Director of Workforce Training and Continuing Education. "Their investment in our college allows us to expose future students to career pathways that will help shape the workforce and fuel our economic growth."
