Steps for Requesting Accommodations
- The student emails specialpopulations@lit.edu to request to meet with the Special Populations Coordinator or can drop by the Eagles Nest as a walk-in to speak with the Coordinator. It is recommended that all students begin this process 6 weeks prior to the start of classes to ensure accommodations are in place.
- During the meeting, the Student will provide copies of testing, medical records, and/or letter from a physician which indicates a disability. If you are learning disabled, you must supply test scores accompanied by a professional diagnosis. For Learning Disabilities diagnosed in the K-12 setting, an IEP or 504 Plan that identifies a Learning Disability will be considered. Please make sure all documentation is as recent as possible.
- After reviewing the documentation the Coordinator will complete the Intake Packet with the student which the student will sign upon completion.
- If the Semester has begun, accommodation memos will be created, printed and given to the student. If not Students can begin picking up memos from the special populations' office 1 week before the beginning of the Semester. The student will also receive the instructor confirmation forms alongside the memo.
- The student must then personally deliver the memo to each of their instructors. It is best to do this during Instructors office hours. Accommodations do not become effective until the instructor receives the memo and confirmation forms. Students must deliver these memos to preserve confidentiality.
- For returning students you will only need to request your accommodation memos for the new semester 1 week before school begins.
*Online only students will follow these same guidelines for requesting accommodations
