Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) has been selected to receive an American Welding Society (AWS) Foundation Welding Workforce Grant in the amount of $24,592. The grant will provide the welding program with equipment including four plasma cutters, five drag cutting cartridges, five mechanized cutting cartridges and an air filter kit.

"I am truly honored and deeply grateful to the American Welding Society for awarding us this prestigious grant,” said Robert Jones, LIT Welding Program Director. “The grant's impact extends beyond the classroom; it will create an environment of inspiration and motivation, encouraging our students to strive for excellence in their welding endeavors. By fostering an atmosphere of innovation and creativity, we aim to produce a new generation of skilled welders who will contribute significantly to the field and address real-world challenges with ingenuity.

With the support of the AWS, LIT can now implement state-of-the-art technologies, cutting-edge equipment, and innovative teaching methodologies into the welding program. This infusion of resources will enhance the hands-on learning experience for the students, allowing them to gain practical skills that are not only essential in their education but also highly sought-after in the industry.

"The AWS Foundation is proud to support the welding program at Lamar Institute of Technology," said Monica Pfarr, Executive Director. "As the industry continues to face a shortage of welding professionals, institutions such as LIT are rising to meet the challenge. We look forward to seeing the program grow to serve the needs of local fabricators and manufacturers."
This grant represents a shared belief in the importance of promoting quality education and nurturing talent in the welding industry.

“Once again, we extend our sincerest appreciation to the American Welding Society for their belief in our mission and their support in making a lasting impact on our student's lives,” said Jones. “We are eager to witness the positive ripple effects this grant will create, empowering our students to shine as skilled welders and inspiring them to become leaders in their chosen career paths. Together, we will shape the future of welding education and elevate the standards of excellence in the welding community."
