Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) will host the 23rd Annual Salute to the Real American Heroes honoring southeast Texas first responders and military personnel at 6 p.m. September 5, at the Beaumont Civic Center. 

The program will include dinner, a presentation of colors and a recognition of scholarship recipients. The event this year will honor Chief Jimmy Singletary, the late Commissioner Vernon Pierce, the late Chief Pete Shelton and the Crimestoppers of Southeast Texas. The keynote speaker will be Jefferson County Criminal District Attorney, the Honorable Keith Giblin.  

Uniformed or civilian-clothed first responders, uniformed military personnel, and their guest, are invited to attend at no cost with a reservation. 

The proceeds from this event benefit the LIT Foundation and provide scholarships for students majoring in Emergency Management and Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Technology, Regional Police Academy and Regional Fire Academy programs at LIT.
