Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) welcomed back faculty and staff at the 2023-24 convocation on August 14 to present the college's new charges for the academic year.

"We have coined 2023-24 the Year of Innovation. It consists of three major factors: customer service (student experiences and student resources), premier technical institutions (statewide and national presence) and outreach (partnerships and opportunities in the community)," said Dr. Sidney Valentine, President. "LIT is in an era of growth, and I am thrilled to see what this season brings for us. Convocation was just the start of a great year ahead.”

LIT will also implement their new campus vision this academic year. The vision states that Lamar Institute of Technology will be the epicenter of innovative, high-quality technical education. This will allow LIT to help meet the high demands of a skilled workforce locally, regionally and statewide.

"The key word here is epicenter; I want LIT to be the first choice for students, delivering high-quality educational programs that focus on high-wage, high-demand occupations," said Dr. Valentine.

Administrative changes were shared to showcase the appreciation that LIT has for their employees.

New changes include:

  • Employees will receive a three percent raise for all faculty and staff that were hired before June 1, 2023.

  • Employees for the first time in LIT history will receive a one-time, no-renewal parking pass at no cost.

  • Holiday schedules have increased from 14 days to 22 days for the 2023-24 academic year.

  • LIT's new minimum salary is $30,000, an increase of nearly $2,000.

  • Employees who complete degrees while working at LIT will now receive salary incentives.

Provost/Vice President of Instruction, Dr. Angela Hill, presented about the importance of providing stellar customer service and meeting LIT’s student success targets (retention, completion, and career placement).

"This is a year of innovation, and without you, the college will not be able to get to the next level," said Dr. Hill. "I have no doubt that our faculty and staff will lead us to achieving our institutional goals, and student success targets in the upcoming academic year.”
